What the analysis looks at
Six kinds of signals, each one explained
Every signal is named, graded by severity and weighted. The score takes off the weight of each one, so you can see where it comes from.
Embedded JavaScript, attached files and missing metadata are flagged too. Every report lists all signals and their weight.

Editing tool and production chain
Which software produced the file, and is it the one that composed it? A Word export reopened in an online PDF editor leaves two different names: one of the most telling signals.

Successive saves
Every rewrite leaves a marker. A supporting document saved three times deserves a question. A PDF that is merely web-optimised is not counted by mistake.

Inconsistent dates
A modification date after the creation date is ordinary on a draft. It is more surprising on a certificate.

A report of signals, not a verdict
Veritas-Doc shows what the file contains and leaves the conclusion to whoever handles the case. That is what makes the report usable: every line can be re-read and explained.
Every signal is explained
A name, a severity, a weight in the score and an explanation of what the signal may mean. The report also reminds you what it does not prove.
A score you can recompute
It starts at 100 and takes off the weight of every signal listed. The same signal is counted only once, so the figure does not collapse on a dense document.
No false reassurance
As soon as a high-severity signal is found, the report no longer displays “No technical sign of modification”.
Nothing made up
When no text can be recovered under a covered area, the report says so instead of guessing.

Do I need an account to analyse a PDF?
Yes: you need to sign in to run an analysis. Your first document is free and needs no credit card.
Can Veritas-Doc say that a document is fake?
No, and that is deliberate. The tool reports technical signs of modification and weights them. Calling a document fraudulent is a legal judgement: it belongs to whoever handles the case, not to software.
Does the report have legal value?
The report is a technical document: it describes what the file contains. It is neither an expert opinion nor proof of fraud. You can attach it to a file to document your check; its weight, if any, depends on how it is used and, in a dispute, on an expert’s view.
What does the report contain?
A confidence score out of 100, the list of signals with their severity and weight, the document sheet (author, creation and production tools, dates, page count), a preview of the pages with covered areas marked and the text recovered underneath, and a printable version to attach to your file.
How should I read the confidence score?
The score is not a probability of fraud: it is a readable summary of the signals reported. It starts at 100 and each signal takes off its weight; the same signal is counted only once, however many times it occurs, so the figure does not collapse on a dense document. The report lists every signal and its weight, line by line, so you can see where the number comes from. A signal is not proof, and finding none is not a guarantee that a document is genuine.
Which documents can I analyse?
PDFs of any origin: payslips, tax notices, bank statements, invoices, contracts, supporting documents. You can drop several files at once and get a report for each. A password-protected PDF cannot be opened: a message says so and the analysis is not deducted from your balance.
What does “text recovered underneath a mask” mean?
When an opaque rectangle is laid over a line, the text often remains in the PDF content. Veritas-Doc extracts it from that area and shows it in its original place, with a confidence figure. If nothing can be recovered, the report says so.
How is this different from a metadata viewer?
A metadata viewer shows the author and the dates. Veritas-Doc goes further: it counts successive saves, locates covered areas, recovers the text underneath, flags fonts that change in the middle of a line and weights everything in a report you can archive.
Can I plug Veritas-Doc into my own tools?
Yes: the Firm plan includes API access with access keys, documented on the Developers page. It returns the report as JSON, with the same signals, weights and areas as the interface.
What happens to the documents I upload?
The uploaded PDF is used to produce the report shown on screen, and its content is not stored. Only data about the analysis is kept (file fingerprint, status, score and signal codes), to keep track of your account balance.
